With Southwest’s carry-on rules, there are no fees to check a bag or add additional luggage🧳. You can bring only one carry-on bag per person and it needs to fit within certain dimensions.

Your carry-on bag can be stored in the airplane overhead bin and must be no larger than 24 inches long by 15 inches wide by 12 inches high.

Personal items include things such as purses, briefcases and camera bags. They cannot exceed 16.25 inches long, 13.5 inches wide and 8 inches tall🛄.

Smaller items include 💻laptops, tablets and headphones🎧. If you’re traveling with those items, you can store them in the seat pocket in front of you.

There’s no limit to how much you can pack into that area, but it must be no longer than 16.25 inches by 13.5 inches by 11.5 inches.

If you want to take along something else, you can put it in the overhead bin. But you won’t be able to use that space for anything else once you’ve checked your bag🎒.

The airline does allow pets to travel in cabin. But you’ll need to pay $15 each way to fly with a 🐶dog or cat😻.

And you’ll need to make sure your animal fits comfortably in the carrier. 🦮Pet carriers aren’t counted toward carry-ons or personal items.

Southwest Airlines Baggage Allowance

The Southwest Airlines Company is known for offering low fares and no fees.

However, it does charge a fee to check bags💼. There are limits to how much you can carry, though, and what type of bag you’re allowed to bring.

Here are some of the rules:

• Checked Baggage

You must pay $25 each way to check one suitcase, laptop bag💻, backpack🎒, briefcase💼 or garment bag weighing up to 50 pounds. You can’t exceed 80 pounds total.

• Carry On Bag

• There are restrictions on what types of items you can take on board.
• You can’t take liquids or gels over 3 ounces.
• Larger electronics like tablets and laptops are prohibited.
• And you can’t bring firearms, 🗡️knives or sharp objects🔪.

• Excess Baggage Fee

• If you exceed the maximum allowable weight, you’ll be charged 💰$150 per pound.
• For example, if you’ve exceeded the limit, you’d be charged 💰$75 for every additional 15 pounds.
• If you’re traveling internationally, you can add another 💰$100 per excess pound.

Southwest Checked Baggage Allowance

All checked bags must adhere to certain size requirements.

For example, you cannot check a bag larger than 👝62 inches x 9.5 inches x 14.5 inches (1650 mm x 300 mm x 365 mm), nor can it weigh more than 50 lbs. (22 kg).

However, there are some exceptions to this rule, including free checked baggage allowances.

For instance, Southwest Airlines offers 3️⃣ three free checked bags per passenger.

This includes one carry-on bag and two checked bags.

• If you want to take advantage of this offer, simply purchase a fare online or over the phone 📲and print out your boarding pass.
• Next, head to the airport and go through security.
• You’ll see a sign indicating that you qualify for the free checked baggage allowance.
• Simply hand over your boarding pass and wait for your 🎒bags to come off the carousel.
• If you don’t qualify for free checked baggage, you can pay for additional checked bags at a cost of 💰$75 each.

Southwest Airlines Baggage Fees

If your bag is overweight or sized too large, it could cost you extra money. Southwest Airlines says it will charge 💰$25 for each pound over 50 pounds.

Items weighing up to 150 pounds must be shipped as air cargo.

You’ll also be 💰charged an additional fee for items exceeding 100 pounds.

Credit Cards That Reimburse You For Checked Bag Fees’

Southwest Airlines recently announced that it will now allow customers traveling with two checked bags to check those bags at no extra charge.

• Previously, travelers had to pay 💰$25 each way for both bags.
• Now, there will be no fee for checking either bag.
• In addition, Southwest will waive the 💰$5 change fee for passengers who decide to switch out their luggage during the flight.

Southwest Airlines Baggage Tracking

If your baggage is lost, damaged or delayed, you can use the NetTracer application 📲 to track the progress of your baggage claim.

1. To do so, you must report to the Baggage Services office and receive the file number.
2. From there, you can log into the 📲nettracer app using your last name and flight number.
3. This allows you to monitor the progress of your bag.

Passengers traveling with Southwest Airlines can now track their baggage claims online.

The airline launched NetTracer, a web portal💻 where customers can check the status of their luggage.

1. Users can access the site by entering their last name and file identification number.
2. After submitting the report, travelers can view the status of baggage claims by visiting the NetTracer website.
3. The NetTracer system allows you to monitor your baggage claim status 🛃24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
