Allegiant Air Baggage Fees & Policy [2023 Update]
What is Allegiant Air’s policy on checked baggage allowance?
Allegiant Air charges a checked bag fee for every checked bag. There is no free checked baggage limit.
However, the maximum number of bags allowed may vary depending on the type of ticket purchased. For example, passengers flying on a Basic Economy fare are limited to 2 carry-on bags and one personal item.

Passengers flying on a Premium Economy fare may bring up to 3 carry-on bags and/or one piece of luggage weighing up to 50 pounds (23 kg).
Passengers flying on a Business class fare may bring up to 8 carry-on bags and a single piece of luggage weighing up tp 70 lbs (32 kg).
A family of four traveling together on a Family Fare fare may bring up to 9 carry-on bags and three pieces of luggage totaling up to 110 lbs (50 kg).
Excess baggage fees will apply, in addition, to checked baggage charges.
Baggage fees range from $25 – $75 USD, depending on the airline and the weight of the bag.
Checked Baggage
Allegiant Air offers several optional amenities for travelers, including checked baggage you could add to your trip for a fee.
All checked baggage, including the initial bag, is subject to additional charges when you are flying on an Allegiant Air plane.
There are two options to add bags: one is adding them in advance of your arrival date at the airport, and the other option is adding them at the airport.
You can check bags up to 72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival date at no extra charge.
However, if you don’t prebook bags, you can book them at the airport.
This way, you’ll avoid paying for luggage storage at the airport.
If you want to add bags, you must do so during the booking process.
For example, you can add bags while checking out at ManageMyTravel.com or via the mobile app.
Allegiant personal item size
Even though you can’t get an extra bag for free with an Allegiant flight, all passengers are granted a personal item free of charge, according to the airline.
Most major carriers offer travelers one carry-on bag per person, but many don’t specify what type of bag you should bring.
The biggest difference between the different airlines’ policies is how much weight each passenger gets to bring onboard.
American Airlines gives you 20 kilos (44lbs), United Airlines gives you 30 kilos (66lbs), and Alaska Air gives you 45 kilos (100lbs).
Allegiant do have restrictions on what you can bring onboard, such as the maximum size of your carry-on bag.
But even those airlines usually let you bring one piece of luggage inside the cabin.
Allegiant carry-on policy
Unlike many major airlines, Allegiant doesn’t allow passengers to bring a second carry-on bag on board without paying extra fees.
This includes both checked bags and personal items. You can still bring a small purse or backpack, but anything larger needs to be stowed under the seat in front you.
You can opt out of the fee if you’d rather keep your carry-on bag with you.
If you do, however, you won’t be able to use the airline’s self-service kiosks to check in online or print boarding passes.
Instead, you’ll have to go to the airport counter where someone will help you complete those steps manually.
The airline’s baggage policy states that passengers are only allowed one item per person, no matter what, and that item must be stowed under the seats in front of them.
However, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, if you’re flying on a JetBlue fare, you can take up to four pieces of luggage with you onboard.
And if you’re traveling on a Southwest Airlines ticket, you can take three items with you.
If you decide to bring a carry-only bag, you’ll have to fork over money. Prices range from $10 to $60, depending on the type of bag, how much you weigh, your ticket price, and whether you’re checking in online or at the airport.
Allegiant carry-on size
The airline doesn’t specify the maximum length, width, height or weight of each item.
Instead, it simply says that the carry-on must fit inside the overhead compartment of the plane.
However, it does say that the carry-on “must be able to stand upright.”
So while a large laptop could be carried in a carry-on bag, a folding chair wouldn’t work.
The airline industry is constantly changing, and one carrier has just announced some major changes to its policies regarding carry-ons.
Allegiant Travel Co., which operates flights throughout North America, has announced that starting June 1st, 2018, it will no longer allow passengers to check luggage larger than 22 inches wide by 14 inches deep by nine inches high.
This change affects both checked and carry-on luggage.
Baggage Service
If an item is found in one of our planes’ terminals or on the plane itself, it will be turned over to the local baggage service department for processing.
Items are held there for a maximum of 30 days while the passenger claims them.
After that time, they are sent to System Baggage Service where we try to find the owner.
If no claim is filed within 30 days, the items are considered abandoned property and are sold at auction. We cannot accept responsibility for items left unattended in the airport.
Can I Pre-pay for Baggage?
Allegiant Air allows passengers the ability to pre pay for baggage online or via the mobile application. You can pre-pay for bags up to 24 hours before the flight departs.
If you do it within 48 hours of the flight departing, there is no charge. However, if you don’t use the airline’s mobile app or website, you won’t be able to check in bags.
If you’re paying ahead of time, make sure to note what type of bag you want to add to your reservation.
Some types of bags require additional fees, such as checked bags and carry-on bags over 50 pounds.
How to avoid Allegiant baggage fees
You can use LugLess for both domestic and international shipments. Domestic prices start at $29 per piece. International pricing starts at $49 per piece.
Additional / Excess Baggage Fees
The Transportation Security Administration announced additional baggage fees for travelers traveling out of the United States beginning Friday, January 24th, 2020.
Travelers flying domestically are charged $25 per bag over 50 lbs., while those flying internationally are charged $35 per bag.
This fee applies to checked bags, carry-ons, and personal items such as laptops or tablets.
Passengers must pay the fee even if there is no excess weight in the bag.

Allegiant Air in-flight experience
The low cost carrier has returned to offering basic amenities like snacks, drinks and Wi-Fi.
But don’t expect anything fancy. “We’re very much focused on providing great value,” says CEO Mark Baker.
“You’ll find us to be a no-frills airline.”
Allegiant’s no-frill flights mean it’s back down to basics when flying. There are no in-flight entertainment systems, charging ports, WiFi or in-flight service – just bare bones travel.
Expect no inflight entertainment, no charging ports, no WiFi, and no in-flight service.
Instead, passengers will receive water, tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages, along with snack packs or meals, for an additional fee.
Their fleet is what you’d expect from a budget airline. With little legroom and a cramped feeling, there’s no space for a laptop or tablet.
Is Allegiant Air worth it?
Allegiant Air is one of the largest ultra low cost airlines in America.
It offers cheap airfares, but many people question whether it is actually worth booking with the carrier.
Based on reviews from the Better Busines Bureau, TripAdvisor, the App Store and airlinequality.com the average rating overall for Allegiant is below 2.5/ 5 stars.
There are more negative reviews than there are positive ones.
Many past customers have complained about cancelled flights and unpleasant flying experiences, while others had great experiences.
However, there are some good ratings as well.

Are there fees for sports equipment on Allegiant Airlines (G4)?
Allegiant Airlines (G4), part of American’s Gogo Inflight Internet provider, announced it will accept sports equipment such as skis and golf clubs up to its size and weight limit.
This includes skis and snowboards, golf clubs, tennis rackets, baseball bats, football helmets, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, kayaks, canoe paddles, bicycles, scooters, surf boards, skateboards, roller blades, and ice skates.
The airline says it accepts these items because they are bulky and heavy, and are often used for travel purposes.
For example, ski boots, golf shoes, and tennis racquets are typically worn while traveling.
Associated baggage fees apply as described on its Baggage Fees & Charges section.
What is Allegiant Airlines’ (G4) fee for overweight baggage?
Allegiant Airlines (G4), one of the largest low cost carriers in North America, announced it will begin charging passengers for oversized carry-on bags beginning April 2.
Passengers flying out of Las Vegas International Airport (LAS) will pay an additional $25.00 USD per bag above 50 pounds or 23 kilograms.
Those traveling out of McCarran International Airport (MCI) will pay an additional charge of $40.00 USD per bag over 50 pounds or 23 kilograms, according to a press release.
The airline will continue to offer free checked baggage up to 75 pounds or 34 kilograms per passenger.
In addition, the carrier will not accept checked bags weighing more than 100 pounds or 46 kilograms.
What is Allegiant Airlines’ (G4) fee for excess baggage?
Allegiant Airlines (G4), one of the largest low cost carriers in North America, offers flights throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central American countries, Caribbean islands and South America.
As part of the fare structure, passengers are allowed to check up to four bags per person for free.
However, if you exceed the bag limit, there is a $25 charge per additional piece of carry-on luggage. There is no extra charge for overweight items.
In-Cabin Pet Policy
Allegiant Air says it does not allow pets to fly in-cabin unless they meet certain criteria.
Specifically, the airline requires that animals are less than 20 pounds and less than 40 inches tall.
They also require that owners secure the animal in an approved pet carrier. Pets traveling in-cabin must remain within the carrier during takeoff and landing.
Additionally, the carrier must be able to fasten securely and provide sufficient ventilation.
Restrictions:
A pet carrier is not included among the carry-on baggage limits. Additional charges apply for pets traveling as checked baggage.
Pets cannot fly on domestic or international flights unless they are certified service animals. Service animals must meet certain requirements. For example, they must be trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities.
Carrier Requirements:
The airline requires you to check your pet carrier with a valid boarding pass. Pets are allowed in carriers that meet the following requirements:
- • Carrier size: Must be able to fit under seat within the aircraft cabin. Not exceeding 9 inches high, 16 inches wide, and 19 inches deep.
- • Two pets per carrier and one pet carrier permitted per passenger. Please note that additional fees may apply for multiple pets.
- • Carrier must be secured and allow your pet to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably.
- • Carrier must have a water proof base.
- • Pet carrier must be carried into the aircraft cabin prior to take off.
- • Pet carrier cannot contain live animals.
- • All passengers traveling with pets must provide documentation showing current rabies vaccination.
Check-In:
Allegiant Air says it will no longer allow passengers to check bags into the gate area at airports.
Instead, travelers will need to check bags at the baggage claim area. This change will go into effect April 30th.
In addition, customers will now need to present a passport and boarding pass when checking in online. Passengers will still be able to print out tickets at home, however.
The airline says the changes are necessary due to increased security measures.
“We know you want to travel worry free,” explains Allegiant CEO Mark Anderson.
“That’s why we’ve taken steps to make sure our customers’ experience goes smoothly.”
Forms Required
Allegiant Air announced Friday it does not require passengers traveling with pets to provide a health certificate.
This includes cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and rodents.
Passengers are still asked to submit a copy of their vaccination records, along with proof of rabies vaccinations. Pets must remain in a carrier during takeoff and landing.
The airline says it provides “a safe environment for our guests and employees.”
Does Allegiant Air include any checked bags with my fare?
Allegiant Air does not include anything for free with any of their available flights.
If you want to check any bags for your flight, you will need to pay somewhere around $18 to $50 depending on when you purchase your ticket and how many bags you choose to check for your trip.
Am I allowed to bring a carry-on when flying with Allegiant Air?
If you’re planning to fly Allegiant Air, there are some things you should know about checking bags.
For example, you are permitted to check just one small personal item — such as a purse, laptop case, backpack or camera bag — at no additional cost. This applies whether you’re flying domestic or international routes.
However, you will be charged extra for checked luggage.
Depending on the flight route, fees can run anywhere from $13 to $100 per bag. They vary based on how old your ticket is and what day you travel.
You can also bring a baby carrier, stroller or car seat into the cabin without paying anything. However, you must purchase a separate ticket for each piece of equipment.
Allegiant Air offers travelers the option of carrying on a personal item.
As long as it fits under 55 pounds and is less than 42 inches wide, you don’t have to pay extra to take it along. However, you will still be charged for checked luggage.
How Strict Is Allegiant With Carry-on Size?
Allegiant Air is known for being very lenient with its carry-on baggage policy, allowing passengers to take up to three checked bags and one carry-on bag.
But what happens when you go over the limit? You might find yourself having to pay extra fees and/or wait longer to board your flight.
According to the airline, there are no restrictions regarding carry-on sizes and weights, however, there are certain guidelines you should follow.
For example, you cannot use a suitcase as a carry-on because it exceeds the airline’s maximum weight and size requirements. If you do decide to check a bag, you will have to pay $25 per bag for overweight charges.
You can still bring a laptop computer and tablet into the cabin, but you will need to purchase an additional device fee of $20 each.
What Will Happen If You Show Up With An Oversized Carry-on ?
If you want to avoid paying extra for checked bags, you’ll need to be aware of what exactly counts as a “large carry-on.”
While most airlines do allow you to bring one bag into the cabin, there are some exceptions.
For instance, JetBlue does not permit larger bags in the passenger cabin, while Southwest Airlines allows up to 45 pounds.
However, many airlines charge additional fees for oversized carry-ons, including United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Virgin America, Hawaiian Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and WestJet.
Why is Allegiant Air so cheap?
Allegiant Air is one of the cheapest airlines around.
They offer flights out of many airports across the United States including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles.
Their prices are often lower than traditional carriers like Southwest Airlines because they don’t have high overhead costs.
Instead, Allegiant uses smaller aircraft, fewer employees, and less expensive maintenance.
The airline was founded in 2012 by Chairman and CEO Mark Anderson.
He had been working in the aviation industry since 1994, having worked for American Airlines and Continental Airlines.
When he was looking for a place to start his own airline, he chose Las Vegas because it offered lots of unused airport space.
He bought up some old planes, refurbished them, and began flying passengers.
In 2016, Allegiant added more routes and expanded into international markets.
In 2017, they purchased Frontier Airlines, giving them access to even more airports.
However, they didn’t buy Frontier’s planes; rather, they kept the same ones they already owned.
Now, they fly out of over 30 destinations throughout North America.
